Q. Q. What colours do the beds come in and how long is delivery? A.Our Modular Beds are available in 3 colours Pale Eucalypt, Paperbark and Zincalume and delivery is within 5 or 10 working days depending on location. Other colours are available and delivery is approx 3 weeks. Colours are listed below and on our products page.
Q. Do colours cost more? A. No all colours cost the same
Q. Is the top edge sharp? A. No, we fit/supply a safety rubber channel that protects the edge.
Q. Do the beds have a base? A. No to allow for drainage and worms to enter, we can however provide a base if needed.
Q. What can I put in the beds? A. We recommend you use a complete organic soil or the no-dig method, which involves layering hays/straws with manures and composts. In our 820mm beds we recommend the bottom 400mm be filled with clean sand, general garden wastes or hay bales, we have even placed them on tree stumps. For the 600mm the bottom 200mm needs to be filled with sand or general garden waste. Our 400mm beds are a perfect depth for veggies so fill the entire space up.
Q. How much soil do the standard beds take? 2.2m x 1.3m: 400mm = 1m3 / 600mm = 1.5m3 / 820mm = 2m3 2.9m x 1.5m: 400mm = 1.5m3 / 600mm = 2.5m3 / 820mm = 3m3 0.9m x 0.9m: 400mm = 0.3m3 / 600mm = 0.45m3 / 820mm = 0.65m3
Q. Can you put your beds on Concrete/Paving? A. Yes, for advice on how to do this contact Birdies.
Q. What about placing on the lawn? A. Using carpet or weed matting for Kikuyu or Cooch turf is recommended or even better whole wet newspapers or cardboard overlapped by 100mm spreading handfuls of blood and bone and lime about the place before laying the papers will cause the turf to rot. "Hot Tip ":- Place the newspapers in your wheelbarrow filled with water for EZY soaking. See our home page for the video of Simon demonstrating this technique.
Q. Can your beds be placed on a slope? A. Yes, a slight slope is fine and we recommend placing the bed long ways down the slope, if placing across the slope place star pickets against the inside of the bed and bolt to the bed or place against the outside, 1m apart will be required.
Q. Can your compost bay fit 1m3 of material? A. Yes
Q. Do you recommend the gate for your compost bays? A. Yes, if you have greedy pets/wildlife or ranging chickens.
Q. Do the posts come with your compost bays? A. No, we recommend going to a recycle yard to source 100mm x 100mm hardwood posts untreated. This works out cheaper for you, and it is more sustainable.
Q. Do you have a system to keep out pests? A. Yes please see our netting systems under Modular beds or Other Garden Products.
Q. Can soil affect the bed? A. PH fluctuations may, however a food grade, non toxic sealer is available from Birdies. It costs $12.00 - $25.00 per bed depending on the size of your bed and it takes minutes to apply.

Q. Does the curving of the material effect the durability No the material is purposely manufactured for this curving application, for example water tanks and bull nose verandahs.
